Intended Message: Our cell phones are just around the corner.

Sony Ericsson wanted the world--or at least Manhattan below 125th Street--to know that its cell phones were available right around the corner at Cingular stores. So they stocked Manhattan pizza vendors with pie boxes, Chinese restaurants with take-out containers and delis with coffee sleeves all touting the closest Cingular stores. Sony Ericsson timed the promotion with the opening of more than 55 Cingular stores in the New York metro area. Cingular is an Atlanta-based joint venture of SBC Communications (nyse: SBC - news - people ) and BellSouth (nyse: BLS - news - people ). Alpha Marketing ran the campaign for Sony Ericsson.

Actual Message: "There was no way to go to lunch without knowing Cingular was right in your area," says Alpha's marketing president, Steven Greene.
